IRTG1911 Retreat in Heiligenhafen

In October 24-25th, 2019, the IRTG1911 had their yearly retreat at the Bretterbude in Heiligenhafen, Germany. After our arrival within the beautiful landscape directly at the beach, the following two days we listened to many interesting presentations that were given by PhD and MD students of the international DFG research training group as well as by invited group-leaders and PhD students from Cincinnati.

The highlights included also lecture given by invited guests: Sven Hammerschmidt (University of Greifswald) informed us on pneumococcal adaptation to host compartments and virulence determinants. Uta Jappe (Research Center Borstel) gave an update on allergy, as a multiorgan disease and its way from allergen structure to personalized medicine. Besides the wonderful location we were happy to meet our collaborators from Cincinnati. We are very much looking forward to meet again in Cincinnati for the next IRTG Retreat in October 2020.
